Pro Football Hall of Fame to help Flight 93 memorial

The Pro Football Hall of Fame plans to raise funds and awareness for the Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville, Pa.

The hall announced Thursday that it will donate $9.11 from every adult admission from Sept. 9-12 to the memorial, which was established on the site where the United Airlines flight crashed on Sept. 11, 2001, after passengers attempted to take back the jet from terrorists. The memorial is the only national park dedicated to the events of 9/11 and serves as a place of remembrance as well as education.

Neil Mulholland, president and of the National Park Foundation, is grateful for the hall?s support and said ?the story of Flight 93 and the tragic events of September 11, 2001 must never be forgotten.?

New Market Research Report: South Africa Agribusiness Report Q4 2012

2012-08-30 16:45:33 - Fast Market Research recommends "South Africa Agribusiness Report Q4 2012" from Business Monitor International, now available

BMI View: We have revised down our forecast for 2011/12 corn harvest due to reduced yield estimations on the back of unfavourable weather conditions. However, we expect a strong rebound in output in 2012/13 because of strong plantings. For livestock, production will continue to be affected by cheap imports from Latin America, in spite of ongoing disputes over dumping from these countries on the domestic market. We have revised up our sugar production forecast for 2012/13 and expect rising prices to encourage plantings in the medium term. However, inefficiencies in the processing industry remain a concern over the coming years.

Full Report Details at

Key Forecasts

* Poultry production growth to 2015/16: 20.6% to 1.6mn tonnes. This will be

driven by strong GDP per capita growth and a steady fall in unemployment. While authorities have begun to address the problem of cheap imported poultry being 'dumped' on the local market, we believe the poultry sector will face new challenges, such as elevated feed costs.
* Rice consumption growth to 2015/16: 21.3% to 897,900 tonnes. This will be supported by strong economic fundamentals. Growing demand will be mostly addressed through imports as the country doesn't not produce any major quantity of rice.
* Corn production growth to 2015/16: 28.3% to 14.0mn tonnes. The relatively high growth rate reflects the influence of base effects. Growth will be supported by an improved macroeconomic outlook and the introduction of new corn varieties that generate increased crop yields.
* Real GDP growth: 2.7% in 2012, down from 3.1% in 2011; predicted to average 3.5% over the five years to 2016. GDP per capita expected to rise to US$10,910 in 2016 (from an estimated * Unemployment: Predicted to fall to 23% in 2012 from 23.9% in 2011, then to 20.1% by 2016.
* Consumer price inflation: 5.6% in 2012, up from an average of 5.0% in 2011.
* BMI universe agribusiness market value: 1.2% year-on-year (y-o-y) fall to US$10.2bn in 2011/12; growth forecast to average 3.5% annually between 2010/11 and 2015/16.

Industry Outlook

We revised down our forecast for South African corn production for the 2011/12 season which started in May 2012, on the back of reduced yields estimates from the South African Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). We now expect corn output to reach 11.1mn tonnes (compared to our previous estimate at 12.2mn tonnes), as unfavourable weather conditions leaves yields lower.

Brazil claims that the South African Poultry Association overstated official import statistics in submissions to the investigation into poultry imports from Brazil addressed to the WTO. This came after the country filed a complaint against South Africa for the imposition of tariffs on imports of chicken. South Africa had been complaining about dumping from Brazil on the domestic market and decided in January to impose extra tariffs ranging from 46.6% to 62.9% (depending on the exporting company concerned) on whole chicken and chicken breast imports from Brazil.

Resilient global prices have encouraged production in South Africa for the 2012/13 season mainly to take advantage of opportunities offered by export markets. However, they could discourage domestic consumption, putting further downside risks to our current forecasts for 2011/12 and 2012/13.

Jack Nicklaus, James Bond at local golf club

The Longview Invitational will be held this weekend at the local Longview golf course.

Time for a new motto at the Longview golf course: Live and let drive. As in golf balls and luxury sports cars.

Members of the Club at Longview will lose a few playing days next month when the Chiquita Classic relocates from Cincinnati, following the lead of its title sponsor, so developer Mel Graham conjured a memorable make-good. This weekend, the club hosts its first Longview Invitational for members, with a $250,000 Aston Martin going to anyone who sinks a hole-in-one on the 175-yard, par-3 10th hole.

?We?re giving away 007?s car,? Graham says, alluding to James Bond?s preferred transportation mode. ?We were scratching our heads, ?What can we do that would be really cool???

Graham says the member field will be capped at 80 players and the hole-in-one contest will run through Labor Day weekend. Longview is the area?s only Jack Nicklaus signature-design golf course, the centerpiece of a 1,000-acre gated community. The golf course opened in 2003.

The Chiquita Classic, part of the Nationwide Tour, the golf world's equivalent of Triple-A baseball, runs Sept. 24-30 at Longview.

expert-financial-advice-what-do-with-investments-now

If you have a workplace retirement account or?brokerage account with investments in the USA stock market you may be tempted to sell now.

The US stock market returns for the past 12 months (market proxy VTI)

Volatility is the Price You Pay for Returns

Investing 101 informs that you need to take some risks in order to be eligible for a larger return. The problem with that reality is that no one enjoys seeing their investments decline in value. Even if you don?t know anything about investing or understand the mutual funds in your retirement account, you understand a 16.02% gain in your Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI). You?realize?that a 16% return is much better than the 0.01% return you?re earning on the cash in your savings account.

Not only are investors usually happy with double digit gains, but after large gains, their anxiety and fear frequently kicks in.

What if the stock market declines? I?m okay with volatility as long as it is going up!

After a nice run up like the past 12 months, you may be tempted to sell and take a bit of profits.

Should You Capture Some Gains in your Investments Now?

The answer to that question depends upon several factors.?Will you?need the money in your investment account within the next 5 years? If so, definitely, take some gains. In fact, if you needed the money in your investment account within 5 years, it shouldn?t have been in the stock market in the first place. The stock market is way too volatile for any short term funds.

If the funds in your retirement account are for long term goals; retirement, college for junior in 13 years is it a good time to sell and capture some gains?

That question requires two separate decisions. Obviously, you could sell, capture the recent gains. But with interest rates in the basement, your cash would get eaten up by inflation over the next 10+ years and be worth a lot less when you really need it. So question one is should you sell now? Question two is, when to get back into the stock market?

If you sell now in an attempt to capture some gains, and the market declines a bit, you?ll be quite proud of your decision. But how will you know when to reinvest your funds into the market?

That?s the real problem, how will you know when the market is ready to rebound after a decline.

The answer is, you don?t know. The greatest gains in the stock market are made in a proportionately few days. If you miss the best 3-5 weeks in a year, you may miss the majority of gains for the year.

Timing the market, or jumping in and out requires you to judge correctly twice, once in when to sell, and the second time, when to buy.

Are you prescient enough to judge correctly twice?

What the Smartest Investors Recommend

Investment professors (myself included), John Bogle (founder of the Vanguard Fund Group), and Burton Malkiel (author of A random Walk Down Wall Street) advise investors to keep their funds in an asset allocation in line with their risk tolerance and stay the course. Over time, if you believe the USA and global community will continue to prosper, then stay invested. and accept that the investment markets are volatile and over time, have trended upward.

Readers, what are your strategies for dealing with the ups and downs in your investments?

Orange County Business Council Statement on Governor Brown& ...

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - Aug 28, 2012) - Orange County Business Council released the following statement today from President and CEO Lucy Dunn in response to Governor Brown's pension reform agreement.

Orange County Business Council commends Governor Brown on taking the first step to address pension reform. As an advocate for the business community, OCBC is a strong supporter of the Governor's 12 Point Pension Plan, and contends the Governor's original plan would have created logical and respectful first steps toward overdue pension reform. The agreement released today is a positive step in addressing some of the biggest issues in pension reform.

"We are glad to see progress and commend the Governor for his leadership on these tough issues," said Lucy Dunn, President and CEO. "But these are first steps toward fiscal solvency and much more needs to be done."

"The Governor's 12 Point Plan is the minimum needed to address pension reform. As the Governor was only able to get 9 out of his 12 reform proposals, OCBC stands ready to support Governor Brown and the legislature in continuing this important work," Dunn said.

Today's efforts are worthy of celebration. Yet, CalPERS governance reform remains a top concern especially as more cities are threatened with bankruptcy. Additionally, discussions are still needed to address potential "hybrid" plans for public employees. OCBC asks that Governor Brown continue to lead California in an open dialogue on pension reform, and encourages the Governor to take whatever actions necessary to ensure progress continue to be made on these important fiscal issues for this state.

About OCBC:
Orange County Business Council is the leading voice of business in Orange County, California. OCBC represents and promotes the business community, working with government and academia, to enhance Orange County's economic development and prosperity in order to preserve a high quality of life. OCBC serves member and investor businesses with nearly 250,000 employees and 2,000,000 worldwide. In providing a proactive forum for business and supporting organizations, OCBC helps assure the financial growth of America's sixth largest county. For more information, visit www.ocbc.org.

What To Look For In An Elderly Care Facility. - Health And Fitness ...

Are you in a position where it?s become necessary to arrange for aging care? It doesn?t matter if the place is for yourself or someone you adore, finding the proper aging care facility is really important. Here are a glance at some of the different aging care options and the way to choose the right facility for your requirements. Keep in mind that long term care insurance can help defray the cost.

Remember that if you?re choosing a health care facility or care system for a friend, you must be practical. It can be hard to accurately view the health wants of a parent or relative since you would like to think they are capable and in good health. But ignoring the requirements of certain medical problems, whether the wandering tendencies of an Alzheimer?s patient or the tremors of an individual with Parkinson?s can actually do them harm.

Do you like the concept of staying in your own home? Consider a care supplier who will come in and help look after your requirements. Think about the precise desires you?ll want met, and the home itself. If mobility is a difficulty, somebody may need to move to a home with no stairs. If you cannot lift, consider having help with your housework and yard work. You need to think meticulously about the different things you want to do round the house and ensure that these are looked after in order to make living at home as successful as possible.

You?ll look at a retirement residence as a good transition from your home. You want to ensure that the facility you select has activities you may enjoy and enough privacy and independence that you?re going to feel at home there. Look at this place as somewhere you?ll want to live for a long time. Medicare strategies and advances in hospital treatment can keep you around for years to come.

You could be forced to take a look at a care home to take care of your precise health needs . If you are picking a facility for a friend or family member, you need to make sure that the residents are healthy and well cared for. The cost of these facilities could be high, and there should be signs that the money is returning to the patients and getting used to benefit them, as well as improve the facility. Look for a facility that can accommodate you or the one that you love?s particular challenges and needs . Is there in house physiotherapy and routine medical check-ups? These can be significant things to think about when picking a facility.

If the one that you love is really ill you could be forced to consider palliative care. This is often a harrowing decision since, by admitting palliative care is needed you are admitting that there?s not much to no chance the one you love will get better. Palliative care arrangements should still make sure that your beloved is well cared for and that there?s mental or physical kick when that is possible . Remember that you never know how long the one you love has left so you need to plan for them to be as cosy as practical for as long they can.

By asking questions and ensuring that the facility you choose meets the needs and life-style of your loved one, you will find the best aging care available. New facilities are being built on a regular basis and as technological and medical advances continue the future has never looked better.

Before you go out and buy a policy go to long term care insurance. We represent 20 of the top LTCi providers. This gives you tremendous options.

This is the work you'd have to do before your post to figure out whether or not you managed to beat your opponent safely or whether you had to heal at any point or escape because it went horribly against you. This was using the dice system and percentage rates which are standard with no Biorhythm from FE9 or FE10 to get in the way and no terrain bonuses.

Water Conservation And Plumbing Issues - IdeaMarketers.com

At Mr. Rooter Plumbing, our team is committed to helping every household conserve water and be aware of drain or piping issues. As a homeowner, it is extremely important to be aware of signs of clogs, damaged pipes or other plumbing issues. It is also important to have knowledge on ways to conserve water and save money.

As experienced plumbers, we want to share our knowledge and a few tips with you to help prevent future plumbing problems and assist you in conserving water.

Shower

1. Are you noticing a foul odor in your shower stall? If so, the issue may be a leaking drain pipe. A foul odor can mean a number of issues; however it is extremely important that you have it checked out by a professional.

2. If you are dealing with a slow shower drain it would be a good idea to invest in a small shower snake. Using a small shower snake to unclog tough build-up in your drain may be more helpful than using a liquid drain cleaner. To prevent build-up in your shower drain, you can try replacing your shower strainer with a strainer that collects excess hair before it travels into the drain. Also, be sure to collect any hair that is found on the strainer after every shower.

3. Try replacing your old shower head with a new one as this can help you conserve water and help you save money.

Household Appliance

1. Have you noticed that there is a bit of water left in your dishwasher after every wash? This water prevents your dishes from burning while they are being dried. However, if you notice excess water in your unit after a wash, there is a chance that your drain may be clogged and should be examined by a professional.

Mr. Rooter Plumbing is available 24/7 to answer any questions you may have and to provide you with the assistance that you need. Please give us a call for more water conserving tips and plumbing precautions to follow.

Analysis: Friend and foe; Samsung, Apple won't want to damage parts deal

SEOUL (Reuters) - While Samsung Electronics is reeling from a patent pounding by its smartphone rival Apple Inc, this is unlikely to damage the other part of their relationship - where Samsung is the sole supplier of Apple-designed chips that power the iPhone and iPad.

At an emergency meeting in Seoul early on Sunday following the damning U.S. legal defeat, the South Korean group's post mortem was led by vice chairman Choi Gee-sung and the head of the mobile business JK Shin, rather than by CEO Kwon Oh-hyun, whose primary role is in charge of the components business.

The clear message from Samsung is that a strict internal firewall between its handset business and its components operations remains intact.

While it plans to appeal the U.S. verdict, and a damages bill for $1.05 billion for copying critical features of Apple's popular mobile devices - a sum that could be trebled - Samsung will not want to put at risk its Apple supply contract which is worth billions of dollars.

As well as being the only supplier of micro processors for the iPhone and iPad, Samsung also supplies DRAM and NAND-type memory chips and flat screens used in the popular Apple gadgets. Samsung products comprise 26 percent of the component cost of the iPhone, Samsung's lead counsel Charles Verhoeven was quoted as saying in the media.

Samsung's component sales could hit $13 billion next year and bring in $2.2 billion in operating profit, according to a recent estimate by Morgan Stanley. That's nearly 8 percent of estimated group operating profit for next year.

TOO IMPORTANT

Experts and analysts said the symbiotic business relationship between Samsung and Apple is too important for either to put at risk.

"Apple needs Samsung to make the iPhone and iPad. Period. Samsung is the sole supplier of Apple's processing chips and without Samsung, they can't make these products," said James Song, an analyst at KDB Daewoo Securities in Seoul. "Samsung might be considering lots of options to leverage its components business' importance and pressure Apple, and Apple could be also well aware of this."

With that in mind, Samsung had sought to resolve the patent dispute with Apple - which Apple first brought up shortly after Samsung launched its first Galaxy model in 2010 - through negotiation rather than in the courtroom.

"We initially proposed to negotiate with Apple instead of going to court, as they had been one of our most important customers," Samsung said in an internal memo sent to employees and released to the media on Monday. "However, Apple pressed on with a lawsuit, and we have had little choice but to counter sue."

While Samsung has been found to have copied innovative features of the iPhone and iPad, the Korean group's lawyers have emphasized that its own innovative components and wireless technology patents, which the U.S. jury ruled that Apple did not violate, made Apple's products a reality.

"Apple isn't that stupid (to risk its Samsung parts deal). Apple's agreements with Samsung will ensure that Samsung has no choice but to comply and supply," Florian Mueller, an intellectual property consultant, posted on his blog.

"Also, Samsung's other customers would lose faith if it turned out unreliable. And since Apple threatened Samsung with litigation two years ago, it's had plenty of time to identify alternatives."

SHARP SELL-OFF

Samsung itself shrugged off market concerns that its component contracts were at risk due to the litigation. Samsung shares tumbled more than 7 percent on Monday, wiping $12 billion off its market value.

"(The) supply contract remains a separate issue from the litigation and there'll be no change to it going forward," said an executive who took part in Sunday's meeting, which was not attended Jay Y. Lee, chief operating offer and heir apparent to Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee, according to the executive.

Kwon was promoted to CEO in June, with JK Shin and BK Yoon leading the telecommunications and consumer electronics divisions respectively so as to avoid potential conflicts of interest, as Samsung supplies parts to its main rivals such as Apple, Nokia, HTC Corp and Sony Corp.

As demand for mobile gadgets has soared, Samsung announced just last week a $4 billion investment to boost output at its U.S. chip plant, where it makes chips for the iPhone and iPad. That comes on top of $2 billion of spending Samsung unveiled two months ago to build a new chip plant and the conversion of existing chip lines to make logic chips to power mobile gadgets.

SUPPLY CHAIN

Apple has been looking to spread its supply chain to reduce its reliance on Samsung. The U.S. firm frequently faces a supply crunch when a new product is launched, triggering a consumer stampede that drives demand far in excess of supply and production capability.

Earlier this year, a source told Reuters that Japan's Elpida Memory Inc was selling more than half of its mobile DRAM chips to Apple.

Samsung mainly competes with Toshiba Corp and Korean rival SK Hynix in supplying memory chips for Apple, and LG Display in flat-screen panels.

Samsung has around 70 percent global market share in mobile DRAMs, but Apple sources only 40 percent of its mobile DRAM chip requirement from Samsung, a boon to the likes of Elpida and SK Hynix, analysts say.

Shares in LG Display, which is widely speculated to supply a new and thinner panel for the next iPhone, jumped more than 4 percent on Monday. SK Hynix slipped 0.5 percent in a flat market.

"For its part, Samsung is also diversifying its customer base to reduce its reliance to Apple - adding new ones like Qualcomm, and that'll prove to be a good strategy longer term as Apple component margins are generally low due to its huge bargaining power," said Daewoo's Song.

"Other suppliers may benefit from a worsening Apple/Samsung relationship in the short term, but in terms of margins, I'm doubtful they can make good money from any Apple cookie crumbs that Samsung throws away."

Compound discovered that boosts effect of vaccines against HIV and flu

ScienceDaily (Aug. 26, 2012) ? Oxford University scientists have discovered a compound that greatly boosts the effect of vaccines against viruses like flu, HIV and herpes in mice.

An 'adjuvant' is a substance added to a vaccine to enhance the immune response and offer better protection against infection.

The Oxford University team, along with Swedish and US colleagues, have shown that a type of polymer called polyethyleneimine (PEI) is a potent adjuvant for test vaccines against HIV, flu and herpes when given in mice.

The researchers were part-funded by the UK Medical Research Council and report their findings in the journal Nature Biotechnology.

Mice given a single dose of a flu vaccine including PEI via a nasal droplet were completely protected against a lethal dose of flu. This was a marked improvement over mice given the flu vaccine without an adjuvant or in formulations with other adjuvants.

The Oxford researchers now intend to test the PEI adjuvant in ferrets, a better animal model for studying flu. They also want to understand how long the protection lasts for. It is likely to be a couple of years before a flu vaccine using the adjuvant could be tested in clinical trials in humans, the researchers say.

'Gaining complete protection against flu from just one immunisation is pretty unheard of, even in a study in mice,' says Professor Quentin Sattentau of the Dunn School of Pathology at Oxford University, who led the work. 'This gives us confidence that PEI has the potential to be a potent adjuvant for vaccines against viruses like flu or HIV, though there are many steps ahead if it is ever to be used in humans.'

HIV, flu and herpes are some of the most difficult targets to develop vaccines against. HIV and flu viruses are able to change and evolve to escape immune responses stimulated by vaccines. There aren't any effective vaccines against HIV and herpes as yet, and the flu vaccine needs reformulating each year and doesn't offer complete protection to everyone who receives it. Finding better adjuvants could help in developing more effective vaccines against these diseases.

Most vaccines include an adjuvant. The main ingredient of the vaccine -- whether it is a dead or disabled pathogen, or just a part of the virus or bacteria causing the disease -- primes the body's immune system so it knows what to attack in case of infection. But the adjuvant is needed as well to stimulate this process.

While the need for adjuvants in vaccines has been recognised for nearly 100 years, the way adjuvants work has only recently been understood. The result has been that only a small set of adjuvants is used in current vaccines, often for historical reasons.

The most common adjuvant by far is alum, an aluminium-containing compound that has been given in many different vaccines worldwide for decades. However, alum is not the most potent adjuvant for many vaccine designs.

'There is a need to develop new adjuvants to get the most appropriate immune response from vaccines,' says Professor Sattentau, who is also a James Martin Senior Fellow at the Oxford Martin School, University of Oxford.

The Oxford University team found that PEI, a standard polymer often used in genetic and cell biology, has strong adjuvant activity.

When included in a vaccine with a protein from HIV, flu or herpes virus, mice subsequently mounted a strong immune response against that virus. The immune response was stronger than with other adjuvants that are currently being investigated.

The team also showed that PEI is a potent adjuvant in rabbits, showing the effect is not just specific to mice and could be general.

Another potential advantage of PEI is that it works well as an adjuvant for 'mucosal vaccines'. These vaccines are taken up the nose or in the mouth and absorbed through the mucus-lined tissues there, getting rid of any pain and anxiety from a needle. Mucosal vaccines may also be better in some ways as mucosal tissues are the sites of infection for these diseases (airways for respiratory diseases, genital mucosa for HIV and herpes).

Professor Sattentau suggests that: 'In the best of all possible worlds, you could imagine people would have one dose of flu vaccine that they'd just sniff up their nose or put under their tongue. And that would be it: no injections and they'd be protected from flu for a number of years.

'It's just a vision for the future at the moment, but this promising adjuvant suggests it is a vision that is at least possible.'
